SPEAR Senior Design

The SPEAR Senior Design team is comprised of a group of Engineering Technology students at Pittsburg State University who are working together on a senior design project.

The team will perform all aspects of creating a new African Spear Point exploiting the casting manufacturing process from design conception to performance. The team will provide a preliminary plan, make their version of an African Spear Point, document their project with a professional Technical Report and produce a project video documenting their project. The competition will be judged by a panel of steel experts selected by SFSA (Steel Founders’ Society of America). The team will compete in the Cast in Steel competition in Cleveland, OH in spring of 2023.

Your financial gift will be used to cover costs associated with materials to construct the spearhead and traveling expenses to the competition. The team is seeking to raise $8,500 to cover all expenses.

SPEAR Design

Spear Models (Above)- The images above show some of the preliminary ideas of the makeup of the spear head. While hoping to maintain authenticity, along with functionality we plan on obtaining a winning weapon in this years “Cast in Steel” competition.

Testing Frame Models (Below)- The image blow shows initial design ideas for the testing fixture. Including plexiglass machine guarding and a sled that will slam into the target material below.
