The Pittsburg State University Baja Racing Team will be traveling to Williamsport, Pennsylvania to compete in a "Society of Automotive Engineers" (SAE) sponsored Baja competition on May 16-19, 2024. Our trip, including two days of travel, will consist of our single-person off-road vehicle being tested and evaluated by industry engineers as we compete against 99 other vehicles from schools worldwide. We will spend this entire 2023-2024 school year designing and building our prototype based upon the specifications and rules provided by SAE. During the competitions, our team's vehicle will be scored in three categories: Static judging, Dynamic scoring, and a 4-hour endurance race.
Gorilla Racing is a student-led organization that designs, manufactures, and builds an off-road vehicle to compete at the Baja SAE competitions. On top of manufacturing a prototype vehicle, the team is tasked with creating their own fictitious company for a business proposal in accepting their vehicle's design. We will create plans for manufacturing, distribution, and many other ways to get our vehicle to the public. The construction of the car is performed entirely in-house by team members. This experience teaches students valuable skills and lessons that cannot be taught in a traditional classroom, further preparing us for the workforce.
However, none of this would be possible without support from companies and individuals like you to help with the costs of materials, special tooling, equipment and travel expenses. We appreciate your generosity, and we hope you will consider supporting our team this year!
