We are senior students in Manufacturing Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology at Pittsburg State University, and for our capstone project we are developing a fully automated manufacturing system. Our project involves designing and building a pneumatic fixture for a Haas CNC machine that will produce custom coasters to be shared with prospective students at open house events. These coasters will represent the precision, creativity, and innovation of engineering technology here at Pitt State.
We are programming a Haas collaborative robot (Cobot) to work alongside the CNC machine and fixture. This integration allows the process of loading and unloading parts to be automated - demonstrating how people and technology can work together in manufacturing environments to create a quality part.
This project will not only provide our team with valuable hands-on experience, but it will also serve as a permanent resource for our department, expanding the technology available to future students and strengthening our ability to showcase what manufacturing has to offer. We are seeking support to help us purchase the materials, components, and tooling needed to complete this project. Your contribution will directly help us bring this system to life and inspire the future of engineers at Pittsburg State University.
