About Our Project

Our senior design team at Pittsburg State University is participating in the 2027 Cast in Steel competition, where we will design and manufacture a medieval-style flanged mace. Throughout the project, our team will take the mace from the initial design and prototyping stages through the casting, finishing, and testing processes. We will work alongside industry partners to produce a finished weapon that meets the competition requirements and is able to withstand performance testing.

The Cast in Steel competition gives students across the country the opportunity to apply the engineering, manufacturing, and design skills we have developed throughout our time at Pittsburg State to a real-world project. Our team will travel to Cleveland, Ohio, April 21-24, 2027, where our mace will be evaluated and tested against projects from other universities. Pittsburg State has a strong history in the Cast in Steel competition, with previous teams winning the competition twice. Our goal is to continue that tradition by producing a high-quality mace that represents Pittsburg State and the Manufacturing Engineering Technology program.

Funds raised through Pitt Power will help cover the costs associated with designing, manufacturing, testing, and traveling to the competition. Any amount of support can make a difference and will help our team successfully complete this project and represent Pittsburg State in Cleveland. Thank you so much for supporting our team and helping make this opportunity possible. We truly appreciate any contribution and support we receive!
