Pittsburg State University Manufacturing Engineering Technology students are working on a Cast in Steel project for this year's Senior Design Project. However, what makes this project differ from others is the ability to compete in a national competition. This contest is put on by the Steel Founders' Society of America (S.F.S.A.), who are a group dedicated to advancing the industry of steel castings. This year's casting is due Friday, March 29, 2024, while the actual contest dates are the 22nd and 23rd of April. The competition includes judges from television's "Forged in Fire."
This year's casting item is a Halligan Bar - a tool used by every fire department in the industry to aid in prying, twisting, punching and striking during emergency situations. One side features a fork used to get past door frames and break deadbolt locks, while the other side features an adze, which serves the same purpose as a wedge but is used in different circumstances. An additional feature on a Halligan Bar is the pike, which can be used to break lock and other puncturing applications.
We kindly ask for your consideration in supporting our Senior Design Project, where we are able to compete nationally and able to provide the Halligan Bar to our local fire department.
